Foreign Minister Davutoğlu met with the UN Under-Secretary-General Amos.

Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey met with Valerie Amos, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator on March 14, 2013.

At the meeting, the UN Under-Secretary-General Amos pointed out that they appreciated the assistance provided by Turkey to Syrians who fled from their countries and took refuge in Turkey. She said that during her visit to Kilis, she personally observed the situation in the camps and the UN would also try to support Turkey’s efforts in all possible ways.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Syria was escalating each day and it was high time that international community should take effective steps. In this context, he said that while Turkey appreciated the work of the UN agencies, a more active position concerning the improvement of the humanitarian situation in Syria should be adopted.

Within this framework, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and Amos exchanged views on the possible steps to be taken with a view to obtaining humanitarian access in a equitable way without any limitations.

Moreover, cooperation areas between Turkey and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) were also reviewed.
