Foreign Minister Davutoğlu calls for unity of Syrian Turkmens

On May 9, 2014, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu addressed the General Assembly of Syrian Turkmens which was held in Ankara.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu criticized the Syrian regime’s plan to hold the presidential elections while 3,5 million Syrian people are refugee and another 6,5 million are internally displaced and said that Syrian people do not want an ostensible election.

“The sun always comes out after the rain” recalled Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and added that Turkey will never leave Syrian people and Turkmens alone.

Underlining that Turkey’s diplomatic efforts will continue to find a resolution to the conflict, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that despite the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2139 which was adopted approximately three months ago, Syrian regime does not allow passage of humanitarian aid. Maintained that the international community does not react as required to the regime’s clear violation of international law, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said “There will come a day when UN Secretary General will apologize to Syrian people like the current UN Secretary General apologized in Bosnia.”

Calling for unity of Syrian Turkmens, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that Syrian Turkmens should not allow the ones who try to divide them and asked them to increase their voices in both Turkey and the world.
