Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who is currently in New York to attend the UN General Assembly is participating in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu attended and delivered a speech at the Ministerial meeting entitled “Syria: Supporting Moderate Voices” which was co-hosted by Turkey, USA, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany.

In his speech, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that the focus should be given to the reasons rather than the consequences which led to the humanitarian tragedy in Syria and emphasized that as long as the Assad regime stays in power, a real political transformation cannot be achieved.

Pointing out to the humanitarian dimension of the crisis, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Syrian people fleeing Assad’s massacres sought refuge in Turkey and added that Turkey expected international community to show a keener interest to this humanitarian issue.

Within the scope of his contacts in New York, Foreign Minister also met with Foreign Minister of Mozambique Oldemiro Marques Baloie, Foreign Minister of Bulgaria Daniel Mitov, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldaev and Foreign Minister of the Maldives Dunya Maumoon. In these meetings during which bilateral relations and regional developments were reviewed, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also seeked support for Turkey’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UNSC.
