Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu accompanies President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on an official visit to Colombia, Cuba and Mexico on 10-13 February 2015. In addition to Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Mehdi Eker, Minister of Culture and tourism Ömer Çelik and Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekçi also accompanies the President Erdoğan on the first Presidential visit to the region since 1995.

Within the framework of the visit which is an indication of the significance attached to establishing strategic ties with Latin American countries and regional organizations, items on the bilateral, regional and international agendas are being reviewed and several agreements that will deepen the relations are being signed.

On the first leg of the visit, President Erdogan met with President Juan Manuel Santos Calderon, attended Turkey-Colombia Business Forum and addressed the participants of the symposium held by Bogoto Externado University and Ankara University, which is titled “1915: The Longest Year of the Ottoman Empire.”

Stating that seven important agreements were signed within the framework of Colombia visit, President Erdoğan said “Today we negotiated for cooperation in many areas and signed important agreements. Until today these agreements were not in place yet, for the first time we are taking steps like these and bringing the relations among us to a much resolute point.”

In Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu’s meeting with Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin, the cooperation between the two countries was discussed comprehensively. In Cuba, the second leg of the visit, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also evaluated bilateral relations with his counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla at a working breakfast.
