Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu participated in the G20 and MIKTA Foreign Ministers Meetings in Bonn

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Bonn, Germany, on 16-17 February to participate in the G-20 and also the 9th MIKTA Foreign Ministers Meeting, the platform which is currently chaired by Turkey.

MIKTA countries, namely Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia gathered under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu on 16 February 2017. At the meeting fight against terrorism, economic cooperation and energy matters were discussed.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also informed the participants of Turkey’s MIKTA chairmanship priorities. Additionally, global and regional issues were discussed.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu shared our views on sustainable development and security issues on the first day of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting. Global and regional issues such as peacekeeping and cooperation with Africa were also discussed.

On the margins of the meeting, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held numerous bilateral talks. Firstly, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Espinoza Cantellano, Executive Director of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to exchange views regarding the climate change issue. Çavuşoğlu also met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. At the meeting with his American counterpart, bileteral relations, fight against DEASH, PYD, FETO terror organizations were discussed. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, French Foreign Minister Jean Marc Ayrault, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. During these contacts, recent developments in Syria, bilateral relations, fight against terror and regional developments were on the agenda.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the Like-Minded Countries Meeting on Syria on February 17, 2017, in Bonn. Turkey, UK, Germany, France, USA, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Italy and the EU attended the meeting at which matters related to the next round of Geneva negotiations scheduled for 23 February 2017 as well as the latest situation in Syria were discussed.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu flew to Munich to participate in the 53rd session of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) following the G-20 and 9th MIKTA Foreign Ministers Meetings in Bonn.
