On 28 November 2016, Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız received Mr. Nils Melzer, UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment who visits Turkey within the scope of our “standing invitation” to the UN special procedures on human rights since 2001. The visit was scheduled at the beginning of 2016 in line with our standing invitation.

At the working lunch hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Yıldız, it was emphasized that the visit of Special Rapporteur Melzer and his delegation to our country during “State of Emergency” is the manifestation of our uninterrupted and constructive cooperation based on transparency with the UN special mechanisms.

In the meeting, our policy of “zero tolerance” against torture which has been implemented since the beginning of the 2000s, and the cooperation that we have maintained with international organizations in this context as well as recent developments in Turkey were discussed.
