Turkey strongly supports the efforts to bring about peace and security in Tajikistan and wholeheartedly hopes that the brotherly people of this country ,in the nearest future, will be able to overcome the sufferings created by the ongoing civil strife.

In this framework, Turkey also welcomes the realization of the first multiparty elections on 27 February 2000 in an orderly and peaceful manner. The elections can be regarded as an important accomplishment in the implementation of the Peace Agreement reached between the parties.

The Turkish Government firmly believes that the establishment of a plural democracy and rule of law in Tajikistan constitutes a significant contribution to the domestic tranquility as well as regional security and stability. Turkey also wishes the results of the recent elections will benefit the brotherly people of Tajikistan.
