Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Babacan will be in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt between 27-28 June 2008 upon the invitation of the President of the African Union Commission Jean Ping, to attend the 13th Regular Meeting of the Council of Ministers during the African Union Summit.
At the African Union Council of Ministers Meeting, Minister Babacan will deliver a speech addressed to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the African Union countries at the session to be held under the special agenda item relating to cooperation between the African Union and Turkey.
Turkey has become an observer member of the African Union in 2005. The African Union has designated Turkey as a strategic partner at its 10th Summit Meeting held in Addis Ababa in January of 2008.
This year in August, the Turkey-Africa Cooperation Summit will be organized in Istanbul. Minister Babacan will have the opportunity during the African Union Council of Ministers Meeting in Sharm el Sheikh to share with his African colleagues our assessments with regard to Turkish-African relations. He will also engage in bilateral talks with Foreign Ministers of African countries taking part in the meeting.
