Türkiye's relations with Pakistan have developed on the basis of close
friendship and brotherhood since the establishment of Pakistan as an
independent state on 14 August 1947. 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Pakistan.
The support extended by the Muslims of the sub-continent to the Turkish War
of Independence has a special place in the minds of the Turkish people.
Türkiye’s success in establishing a modern state after the war has been a
source of inspiration for the Pakistani people.
Following the establishment of Pakistan, reciprocal high-level visits
developed friendly relations further, while the two countries' support for
each other in getting through most difficult challenges such as at times of
natural disasters led to deepening of close relations between the peoples.
The relations between the two countries have been institutionalized with
the establishment of the High Level Cooperation Council in 2009, which was
later upgraded to the level of High Level Strategic Cooperation Council
(HLSCC).
H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Pakistan on 12-13 February 2025
and on this occasion, the seventh meeting of the High Level Strategic
Cooperation Council (HLSCC) was held. H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs
Hakan Fidan paid a visit to Pakistan on 20 May 2024.
H.E. Dr. Arif Alvi, Former President of Pakistan visited Türkiye on 15 and
16 August 2021 to attend the launching ceremony of the first of the four
MILGEM-class corvette ships built by Türkiye for Pakistan. H. E. Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Ishak Dar
attended the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Istanbul on 8
June 2024.
H.E. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently visited Türkiye and received by
H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 25 May 2025.
