Türkiye - India Political Relations

Türkiye recognized India right after its declaration of independence on 15 August 1947 and diplomatic relations were established between the two countries.

Türkiye is represented in India by its Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates General in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Bilateral visits and meetings were held between Türkiye and India in recent years. The last political consultations were held on 10 June 2022 at the Deputy Minister/Undersecretary level, and on 16 January 2023 at the Director General level in Ankara.

The last official visit from Türkiye to India at the level of a head of state was made by President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2017. At the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it was held in 2016.

The last visit from India to Türkiye at the Presidential level was made by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, in 2013. The last visit at the level of a Prime Minister was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 on the occasion of the G-20 Summit held in Antalya, and the last visit at the level of a Foreign Minister was made by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, in the same year.

Our President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Indian Prime Minister Modi on September 9-10, 2023, in New Delhi, within the scope of the G-20 Leaders' Summit.

The last meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers was held between our former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jaishankar, within the scope of the G-20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on February 28, 2023.

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş, met with the Vice President of India and Speaker of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) Jagdeep Dhankar on October 13, 2023, and with the Speaker of the People's House of India (Lok Sabha) Om Birla on October 14, 2023, within the scope of the G20 Ninth Parliament Speakers' Summit (P20) held in New Delhi on October 13-14, 2023.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Türkiye-ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership Sixth Trilateral Meeting organized in Viyentiyan, the capital of Laos, on July 26-27, 2024.
