Joint Statement on the Fifth Meeting of High-Level Security Mechanism Between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Iraq, 13 April 2025

1. The Fifth Meeting of the Türkiye-Iraq High-Level Security Mechanism was held in Antalya on April 13, 2025, with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, Director of MİT and the Deputy Interior Minister from the Republic of Türkiye; Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, National Security Adviser, Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Commission, Interior Minister of the KRI and Head of National Intelligence Service, from the Republic of Iraq.

2. The Parties reiterated the importance they attach to the political unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of one another.

3. The Parties confirmed their determination to enhance their coordination and cooperation in all bilateral fields, including military, border security, counter-terrorism, defense industries, energy, water and Development Road Project.

4. The Parties emphasized their common will to enhance their bilateral relations in an institutional and sustainable framework through mutual visits. In this vein, the importance of the upcoming visit of H.E.Prime Minister Muhammed Shia Al Sudani to Türkiye on 8 May 2025 to hold the Fourth Meeting of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council was highlighted.

5. In light of the common threat posed by PKK to both countries, the importance of the implementation of Öcalan’s call on dissolution and disarmament of PKK was emphasized in the meeting.

In this regard, the Parties reaffirmed their joint will to resolutely maintain the already established coordination and cooperation against this common threat.

6. Due to the urgency to find a solution to Al-Hol, Roj and other camps in Syria, the Parties acknowledged the necessity to form a joint committee to address the issue.

7. Regarding the “Quintet Mechanism” of Syria and its neighbours to confront terrorism initiated in Amman on 9 March 2025, the Parties reiterated their determination to establish a Joint Operation Center.

8.The Parties expressed their deep concern about the grave violations of Israel against the people of Gaza Strip and Lebanon as well as Syrian territories.

9. The positive outcome of the recent meeting of the US and Iranian delegations in Muscat on 12 April 2025 was welcomed by the Parties. The continuation of this dialogue is believed to pave the way to a peaceful solution to the dispute.
