Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco, Saad-Eddine El Othmani paid a visit to Turkey upon the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu on 18-20 March 2012.
Bilateral relations and regional developments were discussed at the meetings headed by Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and Moroccan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister El Othmani. The ministers also held a joint press conference following their meetings.
Pointing out that a Moroccan Foreign Minister pays a visit to Turkey for the first time since 1987; Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said the reason for this is that Turkey and Morocco have relations without any problem. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu expressed that Turkey-Morocco High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will be established soon and the deepest relations will be constituted between the two countries within the scope of a joint action plan. He announced that the bilateral visits will be held annually from now on. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu also said that Turkey and Morocco are aiming at increasing bilateral trade volume up to 3 billion Dollars.
Moroccan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister El Othmani expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Turkey after 25 years and underlined the historical and cultural depth of Turkish-Moroccan relations.
The Ministers also attended the panel of Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research entitled “Democratic Transformation and Common Regional Vision: Morocco-Turkey” and shared their views regarding the reforms in Morocco and transition in the Middle East and North Africa as well as bilateral relations.
Moreover, the Guest Minister was received by the President of Turkey, the President of Turkish Grand Assembly and the Prime Minister of Turkey.
During the visit of Moroccan Minister, Agreement on International Passenger and Cargo Transportation by Highways between Turkey and Morocco, Memorandum of Understanding Between Diplomatic Academies of Foreign Ministries and Memorandum of Understanding Between Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization of Turkey (KOSGEB) and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency of Morocco (ANMPE) were also signed.
