QA-47, 9 December 2016, Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, in Response to a Question Regarding the Congressional Approval of the Authorization of the US Government to Provide Entities Fighting in Syria with Some Sensitive Military Equipment

We understand that the US government has been granted authorization to provide entities fighting in Syria with some sensitive military equipment within the framework of the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act and that this provision is conditional on certain caveats, including the consent of Congress. It is not clear yet whether this authorization will be used and if so in what context and towards which entities. In any case, we have reiterated our well-known views and sensitivities to the US side and cautioned against the mentioned military equipment falling into the wrong hands, in particular those terrorist organizations that target Turkey. We will monitor this matter closely.
