QA-65, 9 October 2018, Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hami Aksoy, in Response to a Question Regarding Saudi Citizen and Journalist Mr. Jamal Khashoggi

The developments concerning the fate of Saudi citizen and journalist Mr. Jamal Khashoggi have been closely followed by our judicial, security and intelligence authorities from the outset. The investigation launched by our relevant authorities to determine his fate has been continuing extensively.

Although consular premises are inviolable according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the receiving state can conduct an examination in these premises with the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission. The Saudi authorities have notified that they are open to cooperation in this regard and that the examination can be conducted in their consular buildings in Istanbul.

Within the framework of the investigation, an examination will be conducted in the said consular buildings.
