Message by H.E. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, on the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 December 2024

I extend my heartfelt wishes to our valued citizens and the entire human family on the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 December.

Unfortunately, our world continues to be the scene of gross and systematic human rights violations although 76 years have passed since the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This alarming situation for global peace and stability indicates that significant progress still needs to be made in the protection and promotion of human rights worldwide.

The genocide perpetrated in Palestine has revealed that the principles and objectives enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are not being recognized equally and fairly for all. In the face of this atrocity, where human values and the rule of law are ignored, the international community must leave double standards behind and demonstrate a shared conscience and unified stance.

Türkiye will resolutely continue its efforts, alongside principled and conscientious members of the international community, to ensure an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Palestine and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, promote the recognition of the State of Palestine, and advance necessary steps toward a two-state solution.

Türkiye will also continue to lead international efforts to combat discrimination and hate crimes, particularly racism, xenophobia, and hatred against Islam, which pose a threat to global peace and stability.

On this meaningful day, I wish for a world where human rights, based on universal values, are treasured for all, and where justice and peace prevail.
