Bilateral diplomatic relations were established on 21 June 1982. Turkish
Embassy in Harare was inaugurated on 30 April 2011. Zimbabwe’s Embassy in
Ankara was opened in 2019, official inauguration was done by respective
Foreign Ministers on 22 Haziran 2021. Bilateral relations gained momentum
after the reciprocal establishment of the Embassies.
Bilateral trade volume shows an upward trend and reached 44,367 million USD
in 2024 (Exports of Türkiye: 20,609 million USD, imports to Türkiye: 23,758
million USD). Türkiye’s main export items are machinery and transportation
vehicles, chemicals, petroleum and petroleum products, electrical items,
food, textiles, while the main import items are tobacco, cotton, gold,
platinum, chromium, lithium, diamond and iron ore alloys.
Turkish Government has been providing undergraduate, graduate and
post-graduate scholarships to Zimbabwean students under “Türkiye
Scholarships” each year since 1992.
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provides development and
humanitarian assistance in Zimbabwe in various areas such as setting up
laboratory at a tertiary institution, agricultural machinery for vocational
traning and food hamper distribution.
Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) under Presidency of Religious Affairs of
Türkiye distributes meat and food hampers and opened solar boreholes.
Turkish NGOs carry out such programs, as well.
