Relations Between Türkiye and Vietnam

Political Relations

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Vietnam were established on June 7, 1978.

Both countries have embassies in each other's capitals.

The first visit at the Prime Minister level was by then-Prime Minister H.E. Binali Yıldırım to Vietnam on August 23-24, 2017. Vietnam’s Prime Minister H.E. Pham Minh Chinh visited Türkiye on November 29-30, 2023.

At the Foreign Minister level, official visits from Türkiye to Vietnam took place in 1998, 2010, and 2015, and from Vietnam to Türkiye in 2009.

There are mutual friendship groups in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) and the National Assembly of Vietnam.

Commercial and Economic Relations

There is a Joint Economic Commission (JEC) mechanism between the two countries.

The Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Türkiye-Vietnam Business Council has been active since 2005.

Türkiye is the largest investment partner of Vietnam in the Middle East region, with a total investment of approximately 1 billion USD.

Turkish Airlines operates 14 flights per week between Istanbul-Hanoi and Istanbul-Ho Chi Minh City, with one flight daily on each route. Turkish Airlines also operates 10 scheduled cargo flights per week to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

"Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation Agreement," "Tourism Cooperation Agreement," "Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement," "Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments Agreement," and "Customs Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance Agreement" form the legal basis for trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Türkiye’s major export items: Machinery and equipment, inorganic chemicals, spices, cotton textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastics and products, metal ores-slags, fish, natural stones

Türkiye’s major import items: Wireless telephone devices, automatic data processing machines, synthetic filament yarns, textiles woven from synthetic filament yarns, cotton yarn, natural rubber, cashew nuts, shoes
