Relations between Türkiye and Venezuela

Venezuela is one of the countries with which Türkiye has established first diplomatic relations in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. Diplomatic relations were established in 1950.

Bilateral relations, which have been limited for many years especially due to geographical distance, have gained a new momentum thanks to Türkiye's outreach policy towards the Latin America and Caribbean as well as mutual high-level visits in recent years.

President Maduro paid an official visit to Türkiye on October 6, 2017. Within the scope of the visit, the Second Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission under the co-chairmanship of Foreign Ministers and with the coordination of Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), Türkiye and Venezuela Business Forum and Venezuelan Export Products Exhibition were held.

President Maduro, as the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) attended the OIC Extraordinary Summit held on 13 December 2017 in Istanbul. President Maduro attended the oath-taking ceremony of H.E. President Erdoğan on July 9, 2018.

Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Venezuela on September 21-22, 2018. H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye paid an official visit to Caracas on December 3, 2018. This was the first visit to Venezuela from our country at the level of President. On this occasion the Türkiye-Venezuela Business Forum was also held.

H.E. Fuat Oktay, Vice President of Türkiye, visited Venezuela to attend the oath-taking ceremony of President Maduro on January 10, 2019.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza visited Türkiye on April 1, 2019, and the Executive Vice President H.E. Delcy Rodriguez visited Türkiye on 22-23 January 2020.

Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Venezuela on 18th of August 2020.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, participated in the I. Antalya Diplomacy Forum that was held on 18-20 June 2021.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia paid a visit to Türkiye on 8-10 October 2021.

Venezuelan Executive Vice President H.E. Delcy Rodriguez and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia have participated in the II. Antalya Diplomacy Forum that took place between 11-13 March 2022.

Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Venezuela on 28-29 April 2022. On this occasion,Türkiye-Venezuela III. Joint Cooperation Commission meeting was held in Caracas.

President Nicolas Maduro Moros paid an official Visit to Türkiye on 8-9 June 2022.

Since its opening in 1957, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Caracas has been uninterruptedly operational. Venezuela has its Embassy in Ankara as well as a Consulate General in Istanbul.

The trade volume between the two countries was approximately 852 million USD (Türkiye’s exports: 301 million USD, Türkiye’s imports: 551,2 million USD) by the end of 2021.
