Relations between Türkiye and Togo

Türkiye and Togo enjoy good bilateral relations. Regular high-level contacts are held on the margins of multilateral organization meetings (UN, OIC, African Union, etc). Activities aiming at enhancing direct contacts through opening of Embassies are underway. Türkiye has decided to open an Embassy in Lome and this will allow opportunity to further develop Turkish-Togolese bilateral relations.

HE Mr. Faure Gnassingbé, President of Togo visited Türkiye in 2014 on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of HE Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye. HE President Gnassingbé has sent a letter of congratulations to HE President Erdoğan following his re-election in 2018. Turkish leaders have also sent congratulations letters to their counterparts following recent parliamentary elections and constitution of new Parliament and Government in December 2018/January 2019 in Togo.

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Togolese counterpart HE Prof. Robert Dussey met in 2017 in New York at the margins of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Türkiye and Togo is rising. Whereas the trade volume was 90 million US Dollars in 2018, this figure reached 106 million US Dollars in 2019.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) is also active in Togo.

Since 1992, many Togolese students have benefited from Turkish scholarships. The Government of Türkiye is still continuing to grant scholarships to Togolese students.
