Relations between Türkiye and the Czech Republic

Political Relations

After Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved into its constituent states, Türkiye recognized the Czech Republic, which was established on 1 January 1993, on the same day.

The last official visits at the presidential level were made to Czechia in 2009 and to Türkiye in 2012.

Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky visited Türkiye on 25 June 2024. Former Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Czechia on 10-11 June 2022.

The 7th session of the Türkiye-Czechia Joint Economic Commission was held in Prague on 17 October 2019.

The Joint Committee on Economy and Trade (JETCO) meeting was held on 21 May 2024 in Prague.

Direct investments from Czechia to Türkiye during 2002-2024 June have amounted to 710 million Dollars.

Direct investments from Türkiye to Czechia during 2002-2024 June have amounted to 45 million Dollars.

In 2023, almost 385 thousand Czech tourists visited Türkiye.

Cultural, Educational and Consular Relations

A Turcology Department offering education at undergraduate, graduate and doctorate levels, started its operations in 2008 at Prague Charles University, one of the oldest universities in the Czech Republic and Europe.

Under Erasmus+ program, in the period 2014-2024 July, 6,827 Turkish students studied in Czechia and 1.204 Czech students studied in Türkiye.

Approximately 6.500 Turkish citizens are currently residing in the Czech Republic.
