Turkish Embassy started its functions in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, in 2014.
Rwanda opened its Embassy in Ankara in 2013.
Relations between Türkiye and Rwanda have been developing in every field
within the last years, supported by various bilateral visits and meetings
held in different sectors and levels.
President of Rwanda H.E. Paul Kagame’s official visit to Türkiye on 22
January 2025 was the first official Head of State’s visit between our
countries.
Türkiye and Rwanda enjoy strong relations and many agreements in various
fields, including general cooperation, aviation, defense, defense
industries, security, education, economy, trade, tax, diplomacy, protocol,
investments, agriculture and livestock, tourism, culture, sports, health,
science, technology, innovation, media and communications have already been
signed.
Turkish companies have successfully implemented large-scale infrastructure
and energy projects in Rwanda. Construction of Kigali's prominent
structures, such as Kigali Convention Center and Hotel and Kigali BK Arena,
as well as renovation of Amahoro National Stadium and its surrounding
facilities, were carried out by Turkish companies. Turkish companies have
also undertaken construction of administrative facilities and university
campuses in Rwanda. A peat fired power plant was likewise built by Turkish
companies in Rwanda.
Turkish Airlines conducts daily flights to the capital city of Rwanda,
Kigali.
Yunus Emre Institute has been hosting Turkish language classes and various
cultural activities in Kigali since 2021.
Higher education scholarships are provided to Rwandan students under the
programmes of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB)
and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) of the Republic of Türkiye. The
number of students Türkiye has provided Türkiye scholarships (YTB) since
1992 is 285.
