Relations between Türkiye and Portugal

Türkiye’s relations with Portugal date back to 1843. Diplomatic relations which ceased during World War I were reestablished on 28 May 1926 following Portugal’s declaration to become a party to the Lausanne Peace Treaty. Türkiye appointed an Ambassador to Portugal in 1931 and Portugal reciprocated in 1941.

Trans-Atlantic relations, NATO Alliance, a shared Mediterranean identity and geographic positions at opposite ends of Europe all contribute positively to bilateral relations.
