Bilateral relations with Paraguay have remained limited for many years due to geographical distance, however, relations have recently gained momentum within the framework of Türkiye’s Latin America and Caribbean opening policy and with the opening of mutual Embassies. In addition to development in our commercial relations, our relations with Paraguay have been revitalized in the cultural field and through technical assistance provided through TIKA.

Türkiye established its Embassy in Asunción in November 2018 while Paraguay opened its Embassy in Ankara in February 2019.

To date, 1 Presidential and 1 Foreign Minister visit has been organized from Türkiye to Paraguay. Paraguay has also conducted 3 Foreign Minister visits to Türkiye. Other noteworthy contacts include the Ministerial visits by Paraguay in 2019, 2021 and 2022 in the fields of health, industry, trade, public works and tourism.

On December 2, 2018, H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid the first-ever official presidential visit from Türkiye to Paraguay

The Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Political Consultation Mechanism between our country and Paraguay was signed in Ankara on March 15, 2006. 5 Consultation Meetings have been held so far.

One of the primary goals is to develop trade relations between Paraguay and our country. Efforts are underway to revitalize the trade potential between the two countries.

Within the framework of the Trade Cooperation Agreement between our country and Paraguay, the Trade and Economic Joint Council (JETCO) was established, and the Minister of Trade, Mr. Ömer Bolat, was appointed as co-chairman with the Circular No. 2023/12 published in the Official Gazette on July 26, 2023.

The President of the Türkiye-Paraguay Business Council, established in 2022 within the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), is currently Erdoğan Ayboğan (IPLook Networks).

Inter-parliamentary relations between our countries are also being developed within the framework of the importance our President attaches to parliamentary diplomacy.

A delegation of the Türkiye-Paraguay Interparliamentary Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, headed by H.E. Mr. Yücel Menekşe, Member of Parliament for Nevşehir, paid a visit to Paraguay on 9-14 June 2022 upon the joint invitation of H.E.Mr. Oscar Salomón, President of the Senate of Paraguay, and H.E. Mr.Fernando Lugo, Chair of the Senate Friendship Group.

This visit was the first bilateral parliamentary delegation and Friendship Group visit from our country to Paraguay.

H.E. Mr. Derlis Maidana, former Chair of the Paraguay-Türkiye Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay, paid a visit to Türkiye accompanied by a delegation between 27 January- 1 February 2023, upon the invitation of H.E. Mr. Yücel Menekşe, Member of Parliament for Nevşehir and former Chair of the Türkiye-Paraguay Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
