Relations between Türkiye and Namibia

The existing friendly relations between Türkiye and Namibia dates back to the early 1960’s, when Namibia's struggle for independence and freedom has begun.

In this context, Türkiye supported the UN Security Council Resolution No: 2145 in 1966, as the “co-sponsor” from the Western Group, which put an end to the mandate regime.

Following this decision, Türkiye was one of the founding members of the UN Council for Namibia and as an active member made various important and noteworthy contributions to the UN Namibia Fund and the UN Institute for Namibia.

Relations with Namibia gained a momentum with the opening of the Turkish Embassy on January 4, 2012 in Windhoek. Namibia does not yet have an Embassy in Türkiye.

Foreign Ministers of both countries met at the margins of the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit in İstanbul and 2017 UN General Assembly in New York.

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) opened a regional office in Namibia in 2014 and it is running its regional activities through the said office.

The trade volume between Namibia and Türkiye in 2019 was 11,84 million US Dollars (exports from Türkiye: 9,40 million US Dollars; imports to Türkiye: 2,44 million USD).
