Relations between Türkiye and Madagascar

Turkish Embassy in Antananarivo inaugurated in 2010. Currently, Madagascar’s Embassy in Rome is accredited to Türkiye. Madagascar has an Honorary Consulate in Istanbul.

President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid an official visit to Madagascar together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, members of parliament, and more than 150 businesspeople on 24-25 January 2017.

President of Madagascar H.E. Andry Rajoelina attended the III. Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) organised on 1-3 March 2024 and held a meeting with President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 2 March 2024.

Our bilateral trade volume with Madagascar was 82,5 million USD in 2024. Our main export products are iron and steel, flour, sanitary napkins, and yeasts, while the main import products are raw gold, red bean, litchi and cobalt.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Ministry of Health provide technical and humanitarian assistance to Madagascar.

Türkiye, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, provides scholarships for university students from Madagascar. 174 students were granted Türkiye Scholarships since 1992.

THY's Istanbul-Antananarivo flights are operated 3 times a week with a stopover in Port Louis.
