Relations between Türkiye and Madagascar

Turkish Embassy in Antananarivo was opened in 2010. Currently, Madagascar’s Embassy in Rome is also accredited to Türkiye.

Madagascar has an Honorary Consulate in Istanbul.

Madagascar’s former President H.E. Hery Rajaonarimampianina paid a visit to İstanbul to attend World Humanitarian Summit on 23-24 May 2016 and had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye.

H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid an official visit to Madagascar together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, member of parliaments, and more than 150 businesspeople on 24-25 January 2017.

Our bilateral trade volume with Madagascar was 76,5 million USD in 2019 and 88 million in 2020. Our main export products are, grain, iron and steel, electronic equipment, transport equipment, and various finished goods, while the main import products are vegetables, spices, leather, non-metallic minerals.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Ministry of Health provide technical and humanitarian assistance to Madagascar.

Türkiye, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, provides scholarships for university education to the students from Madagascar. 132 students were granted Türkiye Scholarships since 1992.
