Turkish Embassy in Pretoria/Republic of South Africa is also accredited to
Lesotho. Embassy of Lesotho in Rome/Italy is accredited to Türkiye.
Relations between Türkiye and Lesotho are developing steadily parallel to
Türkiye’s developing relations with the African continent.
H.E Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho,
visited Türkiye between 9-13 May 2011 within the framework of the 4th UN
Conference on the Least Developed Countries held in Istanbul.
H.E. Kimetso Henry Mathbaba, Minister of State attended the World
Humanitarian Summit between 23-24 May 2016.
H.E.Mothetjoa Metsing, the Vice President, H.E. Joshua Setipa, the Minister
of Trade and Industry and Mokoto Hloale, the Minister of Development
attended the the Comprehensive Midterm Review for the Istanbul Programme of
Action for the Least Developed Countries in Antalya, Türkiye between 27-29
May 2016.
H.E. Lesego Makgothi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation, paid an official visit to Türkiye in 2018. During this visit
Minister Makgothi met our Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
Several Turkish delegations have visited Lesotho lately to discuss a number
of issues related to bilateral cooperation.
The first round of bilateral political consultions between Türkiye and
Lesotho was held in October, 2019 in Ankara.
Trade volume between two countries in 2019 is 1,65 million USD (exports
from Türkiye: 1,62 million USD; imports to Türkiye: 29 thousand USD).
Turkish Government, within the framework of Türkiye Scholorships, allocates
undergraduate scholarships to the students from Lesotho every year.
The Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) also
fallows, develops and implements projects in Lesotho.
