Relations between Türkiye and Kazakhstan

Türkiye is the first country which recognized Kazakhstan. Common historical and cultural ties between Türkiye and Kazakhstan are the basis of our rapidly developing relations. In the wake of Kazakhstan’s independence, the basis of our relations and cooperation in various areas has been institutionalized through many agreements and protocols signed with this country. Kazakhstan has become one of the most significant political and economic partners of Türkiye in the region.

The Strategic Partnership Agreement, signed during the visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Türkiye on October 2009, brought a new dimension to our relations.

The High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) was established during the visit of then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, , to Kazakhstan on May 2012. (Our strategic relations with Kazakhstan have gained an institutional framework with the mechanism of HLSCC.) The first meeting of the HLSCC was held on 11-12 October 2012 during the visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Türkiye. The second meeting of the HLSC was held during the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Kazakhstan on 15-17 April 2015.

Our bilateral trade volume reached almost 3,9 billion Dollars in 2019. Our common target is to increase our bilateral trade volume to the level of 10 billion Dollars.

In Kazakhstan, Turkish entrepreneurs are quite active particularly food, medication-chemistry industry, construction, hotel management and manufacturing sectors. Turkish construction companies in Kazakhstan have completed projects worth 23,5 billion Dollars by 2019.

Regional and international cooperation between Türkiye and Kazakhstan also grows rapidly. The Summit of Turkic Speaking States has been institutionalized as a tangible result of the cooperation between Türkiye and Kazakhstan in order to ensure peace and stability in Eurasia, and in this context, Kazakhstan has played a significant role in the establishment of the Turkic Council and the TURKPA. Kazakhstan also hosts the International Turkic Academy established within the Turkic Council.

Cooperation on education and culture constitutes another significant dimension of the relations between two countries. About 8.000 students study in the campuses, established in four cities, of International Hodja Ahmet Yesevi Turkish- Kazakh University
