Relations Between Türkiye and Eritrea

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1993.

Turkish Embassy in Asmara was inaugurated in 2013. Eritrea’s Embassy in Doha is accredited to Türkiye.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Eritrea, Osman Mohammed Saleh visited Türkiye in 2011 on the occasion of “Türkiye-Africa Partnership Ministerial Level Mid-Term Review Conference” which was held in Istanbul.

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Ahmet Davutoğlu visited Asmara in 2012 and held talks with his counterparts on bilateral issues as well as regional matters.

Turkish Airlines operates direct flights between Istanbul and Asmara since 2014.

The first political consultations meeting between Türkiye and Eritrea was held on 9-10 March 2016 in Asmara.

Turkish-Eritrean annual bilateral trade volume was registered as 10 million USD in 2020. The main export products from Türkiye to Eritrea are electrical household goods, foodstuff and apparels.

Türkiye, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, provided 15 higher education scholarships to Eritrea in the 2019-2020 academic year. Since 1992, 132 scholarships were provided to Eritrean students.
