Although diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Ecuador were officially established in 1950, they have gained significant momentum in recent years, particularly through high-level visits and the reciprocal opening of embassies. In this context, Ecuador and Türkiye opened their embassies in Ankara and Quito in 2009 and 2012, respectively, marking important milestones in the development of bilateral ties.
The first presidential-level exchange took place with the visit of former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa to Türkiye on March 15-16, 2012. This was followed by the first presidential visit from Türkiye to Ecuador, undertaken by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on February 3-4, 2016, further strengthening the relationship between the two countries. Lastly, former Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Ecuador on April 25-26, 2022, reaffirming the mutual commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation.
2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Ecuador.
