Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Ecuador that were established in
1950 have gained a new momentum in recent years. Both
countries enjoy excellent relations and share a common
will to further enhance their relations.
Ecuador opened its Embassy in Ankara at the end of 2009 and the Turkish
Embassy in Quito was opened in 2012. Türkiye has an Honorary Consulate in
Guayaquil, while Ecuador has one in Istanbul.
The visit of former Ecuadorian President H.E. Rafael Correa to Türkiye on
15-16 March 2012 constituted the first Presidential visit between the two
countries. H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye
paid an official visit to Ecuador on 3-4 February 2016.
Improving economic relations are among the common goals of the two
countries. Bilateral trade has marked an increasing trend in recent years.
It amounted to 117,4 million USD (exports: 59 million USD, imports: 58,4
million USD) in 2019.
