Relations between Türkiye and Dominican Republic

The outreach policy of our country towards Latin America and the Caribbean region has accelerated our relations with the Dominican Republic, as with other countries in the region. There has been a significant development in bilateral relations since the opening of our Embassy in Santo Domingo on October 1, 2013.

Visa Exemption, Air Transportation and Economic Cooperation Agreements for Diplomatic and Official Passports were signed during the visit of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu to the Dominican Republic in 2014.

Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Tourism was signed during the visit of Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to the Dominican Republic on 1-2 February 2017. Dominican Foreign Minister H.E. Miguel Vargas also paid a visit to Ankara on 19 April 2017 which was the first Ministerial visit from Costa Rica to Türkiye.

The Economic Cooperation Agreement entered into force on 21 July 2017 and in this context the first meeting of the Joint Economic Commission is expected to take place in the coming period.

Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Dominican Foreign Minister H.E. Miguel Vargas held a meeting on September 2019 during the 74th UN General Assembly in New York.

H.E. Elias Serulle, the first Ambassador of the Dominican Republic appointed to Türkiye, presented his letter of credetials to H.E. President Erdoğan on 25 April 2019 and the inauguration ceremony of the Embassy was held on 31 August 2019.

Foreign Minister H. E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu attended the inauguration ceremony of H. E. Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, on August 2020.

The trade volume between the two countries was 256,49 million USD (Türkiye’s exports: 233,19 million USD, Türkiye’s imports: 23,3 million USD) by the end of 2021.
