Relations between Türkiye and Djibouti

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Djibouti were established in 1977. The Embassy of Djibouti in Ankara was inaugurated in 2012 and the Turkish Embassy in Djibouti was inaugurated in 2013.

Relations between Türkiye and Djibouti have been steadily developing in every field.

President of Djibouti H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh paid a visit to Türkiye on 16-17 January 2009 and 19-20 December 2017. The President of Djibouti also visited Türkiye on 23-25 April 2015 within the scope of the Commemoration Ceremony of the 100th Anniversary of Çanakkale Land and Sea Battles and participated to the oath-taking ceremony of our President on 9 July 2018.

The President of Djibouti met with our President on December 17, 2021, within the scope of the Third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit. He held bilateral meetings with President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the margins of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in 2024 and 2025.

President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a visit to Djibouti on 23-25 January 2015. During his visit, Ambouli Friendship Dam and II. Abdülhamit Han Mosque’s construction decisions were taken. These two projects stand as the two concrete symbols of the friendship between our countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Minister Hakan Fidan met with Djibouti's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, on the sidelines of the Third Ministerial Review Conference on Türkiye-Africa Partnership held in Djibouti on 2-3 November 2024.

Djiboutian Speaker of the Parliament H.E. Mohamed Ali Houmed paid a visit to Türkiye on 7-12 July 2019 with the members of his parliament.

President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly H.E. Mustafa Şentop attended to the 42 nd Conference of the African Parliamentary Union on 27-29 November 2019 upon the invitation of the Speaker of Djibouti. On the occasion of this visit, II. Abdülhamit Han Mosque was inaugurated.

The fifth Türkiye-Djibouti Joint Economic Commission (JEC) Meeting was held in Djibouti on 4-5 February 2024. Turkish co-chair of the JEC is H.E. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.

Bilateral trade volume between our countries in 2024 was 388,981 million US Dollars.

Turkish Government, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships Programme, allocates scholarships to students from Djibouti. Since 1992, 231 scholarships have been allocated since 1992. The number of Scholarships allocated to Djiboutian students during the 2023-2024 academic year was 38.
