Political Relations:
Türkiye was among the first countries to recognize the independence of
Croatia. Türkiye has established very close relations with this country and
has supported its accession to NATO.
High level visits, which have gained momentum with the signing of the
“Strategy Document” in 2009, have contributed to the development of
bilateral relations. With the establishment of Türkiye-Bosnia and
Herzegovina-Croatia trilateral consultation mechanism in January 2010, and
within the context of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP)
Presidency that Türkiye assumed during the period June 2009 – June 2010,
close cooperation was developed between the two countries on regional
issues as well.
Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu visited Croatia on 17 June 2022 and held
meetings with Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan
Grliç-Radman and Prime Minister Plenkovic.
President Erdoğan visited Croatia on 7-8 September 2022 and attended the
opening ceremony of the Sisak Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Islamic Cultural Center
and Mosque, as well as the Business Forum.

Primary Export Products:

fertilizer, metal extracts, raw metal, technic equipment, plastic
“Agreement on Reciprocal Protection and Promotion of Investments” dated 12
February 1996, “Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation” dated 22
September 1997 and “Economic Cooperation Agreement” dated 18 February 2009
constitute the legal basis of our bilateral economic relations.
The Free Trade Agreement which was signed on 13 March 2002 and entered into
force on 1 July 2003 was terminated when Croatia joined the EU on 1 July
2013.
In recent years, there is an increasing interest among Turkish business
circles towards investing in Croatia, escpecially in tourism, banking,
energy, construction and textile sectors. Croatian Government also
encourages Turkish investments in Croatia.
There are 20 Turkish investment firms in Croatia representing a total of
350 million Euros worth of investments. Up until today, projects valued at
1,2 billion Dollars, were undertaken by the Turkish construction firms in
Croatia.
In 2022, 61.357 Croatian tourists visited Türkiye.
Cultural Relations:
Zagreb Yunus Emre Turkish Culture Center was officially opened by President
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on April 27, 2016. TIKA also has been carrying out
projects in Croatia since 2016.
