The friendly relations between Türkiye and Argentina date back to 1910, when the first consular protocol was signed between the Ottoman Empire and Argentina. Subsequently, following the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, bilateral relations were formalized with the signing of the Treaty of Friendship in Rome in 1926.
Over the years, high-level visits have contributed to the development of bilateral ties. In this context, the former President of Argentina, Carlos Menem, visited Türkiye in 1992, which was followed by the official visit of the then President of Türkiye, Süleyman Demirel, to Argentina in 1995. Three years later, İsmail Cem became the first Turkish Foreign Minister to pay an official visit to Argentina.
The then Argentinian Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, paid an official visit to Türkiye on February 2-3, 2023.
2026 will mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Argentina.
