Secretary Clinton called Foreign Minister Davutoğlu yesterday. The main agenda item of the phone conversation that took place upon the request of US side, and which lasted about an hour, was the resolution that was adopted by the Foreign Relations Commitee of the US House of Representatives with regard to the events of 1915.

As co-chair of the Minsk Group Secretary Clinton informed Minister Davutoğlu about her recent visit to the RF and also about the developments in the Minsk process. In addition to these, the two Ministers exchanged views on all the tracks of the MEEP and within this context about the revival of the Syria-Israel track; developments on the subject of Palestine; results of the Iraqi elections and other regional issues.

On the main agenda item of the conversation, Minister Davutoğlu explained the reasons of the deep disapointment and strong reaction by the Turkish public opinion to the adoption of the resolution in the Foreign Relations Committee of the US House of Representatives.

Minister Davutoğlu underlined that it is critically important that the adopted resolution is not brought to the floor of the House of Representatives in order to be able to dispel its negative effects on the peace efforts in Southern Caucasus and upon Turkish-US relations and that politicians do not pass judgement on history.

Secretary Clinton stated that she understood Minister Davutoğlu’s concerns, and stressed that the US administration is opposed both to the Committee’s decision and to further action on it in the US House of Representatives.

Secretary Clinton underlined that Prime Minister Erdoğan’s participation in the International Nuclear Security Summit to be held in Washington on 12-13 April 2010 carried great importance in every respect and reminded that they expect Prime Minister Erdoğan in Washington.

Minister Davutoğlu stated that the evaluation process on this subject was still continuing and that Prime Minister Erdoğan would take his final decision on this matter in the coming days.
