
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s been visiting China upon the invitation of Xi Jinping, President of China. Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is accompanying President Erdoğan during the visit that started on July 28, 2015.
Ahead of his official contacts, President Erdoğan visited the Monument of People’s Heroes and laid a wreath. Within the scope of the visit President Erdoğan met with the President of National People’s Congress, Mr. Zhang Deijang. Following the official welcoming ceremony, President Erdoğan held a meeting with President Xi Jinping along with the delegations.
In addition to political issues, economic relations, missile defense system, cultural cooperation and UNSC reform were reviewed in the meetings. Two leaders stressed their aim of increasing bilateral trade volume to 100 billion US Dollars and also discussed Silk Road Economic Belt project.
After the meeting headed by President Erdoğan and President Xi Jinping, a Memorandum of Understanding on Setting up a Cooperative Committee at the Level of Deputy Prime Ministers, an Agreement on the Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investment and a Medium- Long Term Development Plan for Commercial Cooperation were signed.
On the second day of his visit, President Erdoğan first received representatives from China’s Muslim Community. President Erdoğan later attended Turkey-China Business Forum with President of China, Xi Jinping. Speaking at the Forum, President Erdoğan stated that bilateral relations have gained progress in recent years thanks to the mutual trust established between two states. President Erdoğan also told that his visit to China is of great importance for stepping up bilateral trade and economic relations. “Political commitment of countries is the most significant factor to improve relations and in our case, both sides have this commitment” he added.
During the meetings with Chinese officials cooperation in the fight against terror was also extensively reviewed.
