P3+1 meeting on Syria was held in Paris

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu pays a visit to France for the P3+1 (U.S., United Kingdom, France and Turkey) meeting.

All dimensions of the crisis in Syria were discussed comprehensively at the P3+1 meeting which is the first meeting in this format.

At the meeting, U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry informed about the details of the U.S. – Russian agreement on the destruction of the chemical weapons possessed by Syrian regime. Later, P3 Foreign Ministers talked about the steps they will take at the UN Security Council as well as the draft resolution they will submit to the Council. Each one of the P3 Foreign Ministers underlined the key position of Turkey with regard to the situation in Syria.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that Turkey has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and the Russian Federation regarding the chemical weapons possessed by the Syrian regime as a positive step. On the other hand, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that Turkey still has serious concerns regarding the massacres committed by the regime without resorting to chemical weapons. He drew attention to the need for taking effective steps with a view to ending the bloodshed and the violence committed by the regime against its own people while the process concerning the destruction of the chemical weapons is implemented.

Moreover, the conditions and the parameters of the meeting which is envisaged to be held in Geneva were consulted within the framework of the efforts for a political solution to the crisis in Syria at the meeting. In this sense, referring to his meeting with the Syrian National Coalition officials in Ankara, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu shared the views and the expectations raised by the Syrian opposition.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu in Paris will also have separate bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
