NO:2 - 5 January 2008, Press Relase Regarding Violence in Kenya (Unofficial Translation)

We are following with concern and sadness the acts of violence taking place in Kenya in the aftermath of the presidential elections held on 27 December 2007, causing the loss of lives of more than 300 Kenyans and forcing thousands of others to flee their homes.

In face of the said events which can only lead Kenya to chaos and instability, Turkey expects both the Government and the people to act with commonsense and prudence, and thus to exert maximum effort in order to reestablish the climate of peace and stability in the country through compromise.

Turkey, convinced that a stable and democratic Kenya is important for the peace and security of the African continent, believes that this friendly country, in the coming period, will overcome the present tension through restraint, dialogue and political compromise within the framework of democratic principles.
