We strongly condemn the terrorist attack which targeted a vehicle belonging to the Italian unit affiliated with the UNIFIL, which is mandated to preserve peace and stability in Lebanon. This terrorist attack resulted in six Italian soldiers’ injury, one of them being in critical condition. We wish the wounded a quick recovery.

The extended UNIFIL was set up with the participation of Turkey in the aftermath of the painful experiences that took place in Lebanon in 2006. The UNIFIL has so far accomplished its mission with dedication and success and played a key role in preserving peace, security and stability in Lebanon and beyond. Therefore, this heinous attack which aimed not only the UNIFIL but also the stability of Lebanon is completely unacceptable.

Turkey will resolutely continue contributing to preserving peace and stability in Lebanon in cooperation with its international partners participating in the UNIFIL.
