No: 97, 1 April 2015, Press Release Regarding the Remarks of Nabil Al Araby, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Concerning Turkey after the Arab League Summit on 28-29 March 2015

We condemn the remarks of Nabil Al Araby, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, concerning Turkey, made at the press conference held after the conclusion of the Arab League Summit on 28-29 March 2015.

Al Araby’s unfounded allegations about Turkey are aimed at distorting the principled and peaceful policy that Turkey pursues in the region. Moreover, they accord neither with the sentiments we nurture towards the Arab World nor with our existing strong ties of friendship and fraternity with the region, based on a long, common history. We believe that these remarks have not been uttered on behalf of the organization, represented by Al Araby, or its member States, but they have been expressed under the influence of the country of which Al Araby is a national.

In this context, we emphasized to Ambassador Mohammed Al Fatah Naciri, the Representative of the League of Arab States in Ankara who was summoned to the Ministry on 30 March 2015 that the remarks of Secretary General Al Araby are unacceptable.
