No: 344, 27 December 2013, Press Release Regarding the Evacuation from South Sudan

An aircraft belonging to the Turkish Air Force was sent to Juba, the capital of South Sudan today (December 27), to evacuate our citizens who wish to return to Turkey because of the recent incidents that occurred in that country. The plane, which has left Juba and is en route for Turkey with our citizens on board, is expected to reach its destination tonight.

In this context, we are closely monitoring the developments in South Sudan. We expect the fighting to be brought to an end, that the issues be resolved through peaceful means, and that everyone acts with restraint.

Turkey, in line with the stance it has taken since the independence of South Sudan, will continue to provide every support and to do its part in cooperation with the international community for the country's development and the attainment of security and stability.
