No: 289, 13 December 2012, Press Release Regarding Developments in Mali

We are deeply saddened and concerned about the process leading to the arrest of Cheick Modibo Diarra, Prime Minister of Mali, by a group of soldiers belonging to the Malian Armed Forces, and to his resignation.

In this difficult process which Mali is going through, it is imperative that Malians act in solidarity and with commitment to democracy for the interests of their country. We believe that problems in Mali can be overcome permanently only through an approach in conformity with democratic principles.

On this occasion, we confirm our support to the endeavors carried out by the international community under the leadership of the African continent with the aim to establishing the territorial integrity, national unity and stability of Mali.
