On 20 November 2012, General Necdet Özel, Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, who is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, accompanied by with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Riyadh, paid a visit to the Riyadh International Turkish School, which serves under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Riyadh.
There are eight Turkish schools in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Abha, Tebuk, Taif and Dammam cities in Saudi Arabia, operating under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Riyadh. Approximately three hundred teachers, appointed by the National Ministry of Education, serve in these schools, while approximately six thousand students, mainly the children of the Turkish citizens employed in Saudi Arabia receive primary, secondary and high school education based on the curriculum of the National Ministry of Education.
