No: 233, 10 October 2012, Press Release Regarding the Peace Talks Between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front

We welcome the accord reached by the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) regarding the signing of a Framework Agreement, as a result of the 32nd round of peace talks between the Parties held under the chairmanship of the Malaysian Facilitator Tengku Dato'Abdul Ghafar, which took place in Kuala Lumpur between 2-7 October 2012.

Turkey, as a member of the International Contact Group, congratulates the Parties on the constructive attitude they have demonstrated during the dialogue process which has paved the way for this important agreement.

The establishment of final and permanent peace in Mindanao is our sincere wish and it is our expectation that the Framework Agreement reached by the Parties, which is envisaged to be signed on 15 October 2012, will constitute an important step to this end. Turkey believes in the importance of mediation for the prevention and settlement of conflicts and stands ready to provide support also to the subsequent phases of the Mindanao Peace Process.
