We have learned with deep sorrow the perpetration of an attempted attack on 22 January 2013 against five soldiers, belonging to the personnel of our NATO Ally Germany, who came to Turkey in order to operate Patriot systems, while they were walking in Iskenderun wearing civilian dress.

This incident which we deem unacceptable and condemn was prevented beforehand thanks to the timely intervention of our security forces.

Our Allies Germany, the Netherlands and the USA are deploying Patriot systems voluntarily following our request and on the basis of NATO solidarity which we appreciate.

We believe that the necessary hospitality will be offered to guest Ally soldiers who are in Turkey in order to support our air defense systems. All necessary security measures have been taken in order to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
