No: 166, 27 May 2015, Press Release Regarding Turkey’s Humanitarian Aid to Yemen

Turkey desires the re-institution of stability and security in friendly and brotherly Yemen as soon as possible through the restoration of legitimate state authority and supports the efforts in this direction.

Turkey has carried out the necessary work in coordination with the legitimate Yemeni authorities and the relevant United Nations institutions in order to ameliorate the unfavorable humanitarian conditions caused by the forces holding the de facto power by resorting to violence and coercion, and to contribute to the basic needs of our suffering Yemeni brothers and sisters.

In this context, the first portion of our humanitarian aid, consisting mainly of food, was delivered to the Yemeni refugees in Djibouti last week. Moreover, 4 tons of medication was sent to Djibouti by a Turkish Airlines plane on 26 May 2015. Despite the ongoing conflict, aid material is planned to be delivered in the coming days by sea from Djibouti to those in need in Yemen by mobilizing all means.

Turkey will continue to stand by Yemen in this difficult period as it has always been the case in the past.

Turkey, one of the leading countries of the world in the field of humanitarian aid, cognizant of its humanitarian duties and responsibilities, continues to be mobilized with all of its organizations and institutions in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the people in need wherever they are in the world in the fastest and most effective way.

As the past experiences have amply demonstrated, it is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the humanitarian aid system at global level as soon as possible. Turkey considers that the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, to be hosted in May 2016, will constitute an important milestone in this direction.
