Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Turkey and Sweden was signed in Stockholm on 12 March 2013 by Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and Mr. Carl Bildt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden in the presence of H.E. Abdullah Gül, President of the Republic of Turkey and Mr. Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden.

It is expected that the links between Turkish and Swedish communities would be strengthened with the Joint Declaration aiming to deepen and expansion of the cooperation between the two countries. Besides, Turkey and Sweden will exert joint efforts to raise awareness in European public opinion of the case for Turkey’s accession within the context of further enlargement and close political coordination will be maintained to ensure further progress in the accession process.

Moreover, it is emphasized that Turkey and Sweden are determined to promote intercultural dialogue in order to combat discrimination as well as racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance, such as islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

Joint Declaration also states that close cooperation and coordination on various areas such as education, culture, tourism, health and trade will be further developed based on jointly prepared and coordinated specific projects and will be carried out in an open, transparent, flexible and pragmatic manner.
