Foreign Minister Davutoğlu “What is important is that the stability in Mali is restored without a permanent foreign influence”

Mr. Tieman Hubert Coulibaly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali, paid a visit to Turkey on April 6-7, 2013 upon the invitation of Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and Mali’s Foreign Minister, Coulibaly discussed bilateral relations as well as recent developments in Mali. Foreign Ministers also signed the Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu speaking at the joint press conference held with the Guest Minister pointed out that the number of high level visits between the two countries will increase in the near future. An action plan will be framed for the development of the bilateral relations and agricultural and energy issues will be the priorities added Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stressing that it will be worked on the steps to be taken for Mali’s development by the establishment of security in the country.

“After these difficult days, Mali will be Africa’s most powerful country as in the history.” said Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasizing that Turkish people closely follow the developments in Mali. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu underlined that Turkey gives every support to efforts of first the people of Mali and then the Organization of İslamic Cooperation, the African Union and other regional structures with a view to finding a peaceful and effective settlement to the crisis in Mali.

“What is important is that the stability in Mali is restored without a permanent foreign influence and international community is in solidarity and acts in unity in Mali. Within this framework, Turkey’s contacts with all relevant actors will continue.” said Foreign Minister Davutoğlu.

Mali’s Foreign Minister Coulibaly, pointing out that Mali is going through difficult times said that Turkish people is in solidarity with Mali. The Guest Minister also stated that they will overcome the crisis in national unity and the crisis cannot be settled by military means, the crisis will be settled economically and politically.
