Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu participated as a speaker in the session entitled “The End Game for the Middle East” organized within the framework of World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2014 on January 24, 2014.

At the session where Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Nasser Judeh and President of IKRG, Masoud Barzani also attended Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that radical groups and foreign fighters are not allowed to use Turkish territory to enter Syria and that all foreign powers including Hezbollah must leave Syria.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stressed that it shouldn’t be forgotten that military means at first have been used on purpose by the regime which has opened fire on peaceful demonstrators while military solution to Syria is ruled out.

Touching upon the sectarianism question, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that all sacred places in Syria are the cultural heritage of humankind and said "If everyone enters into Syria in order to protect their own sect's sacred then permanent chaos will prevail."

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said “If what we want in Syria is peace and not a sectarian perspective, then we all should be able to say that Muslim, Christian, Sunni, Shiite sacred places belong to all of us and their protection is a matter of honour for us."

Despite the current pessimistic atmosphere Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that he is optimistic about the future of the Middle East and reminded that greatest civilizations of the world were born in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stated that lack of visionary leaders; insufficient international financial aid and UN Security Council's inability of adopting required resolutions have played an important role in the problems of the region remaining unresolved.
