Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu as part of his visit to Croatia participated in the Croatia Forum held in Dubrovnik with the theme “European Energy Security”

Speaking at the opening session of the Forum entitled “The Role of Energy in International Relations” Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stated that the enhanced cooperation in economy and energy is the key to establishing peace and stability and to advancing international relations. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu underlined that Trans-Anatolian Pipeline Project (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline Project (TAP) are not only energy, but also peace projects.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that Turkey is a transit country, but at the same time a growing consumer country. Therefore, he added that, Turkey should find alternatives to its hydroelectric energy resources.

Pointing out the importance of alternative energy resources Foreign Minister Davutoğlu noted that the energy security can be provided through stability in Middle East, Caucasus and Balkans as well as good relations with Russia.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu voiced his hope that the EU one day will understand that only with Turkey as a member, its energy security can be fully ensured and pointed out that the energy chapter in Turkey’s EU negotiation process is blocked due to the political reasons.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu also held bilateral contacts with the foreign ministers of participating countries and in this regard met with Mr. Nikola Poposki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia, Mr. Zlatko Lagumdzija, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Carl Bildt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden.
