Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu delivered a statement at the Second International Ombudsman Symposium held in Marriot Hotel. Recalling that the ombudsman institutions are mechanisms of great importance with regards to protection of human rights, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed that the establishment of the Ombudsman Institution in Turkey is an important development vis-à-vis Turkey’s international responsibilities. Underlining that with the establishment of the Ombudsman Institution Turkey met one of the unofficial opening benchmarks of Chapter 23- Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that that Turkey has fulfilled an important priority regarding her accession process to the EU.

Mentioning that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is not solely sufficient at combating the violation of human rights, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey attaches great importance to the cooperation of the ombudsman institutions on this matter.
